Peace Coffee 2801 21st Avenue S., Minneapolis
Peace Coffee is a growing local coffee roaster devoted to fair trade practices, environmental as well as social responsibility, and great coffee.
Project Description Peace Coffee hired Blue Construction to double the size of their existing production facility in the Phillips Eco Enterprise Center and install their new high efficiency Diedrich 70 kilo coffee roaster. The new coffee roaster features state-the-art controls and infrared burners that allow them to roast exponentially more coffee using less fuel. An afterburner helps to maximize efficiency and reduce airborne pollutants. We welcomed the opportunity to work with a company that shares our community minded values, and work with a unique, significant, and decidedly Jules Verne-esque piece of manufacturing equipment. Peace Coffee's expansion project was featured in the money and business section of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune in late 2008. Highlights ◊ Construction was sequenced and sectioned to create less than 5 business days production down time. ◊ Approximately 75% of the construction waste from the project was recycled. ◊ Salvaged doors, windows, and hardware from the Green Institute's Reuse Center were used in the construction of new offices and testing lab. ◊ Water-based low VOC adhesives and coatings were used in the construction of the new offices and testing lab to maintain indoor air quality. ◊ A cooling strategy involving high volume low-speed fans and natural ventilation was implemented to reduce the need for supplemental refrigerant based cooling. |
